DESCRIPTION:This international conference taking place at University of Lille (France) will provide participants with a unique opportunity to have an independent\, informed overview of the application of blockchain technologies in the global education context. The plenary sessions will include use case studies from the European Commission\, governments institutions\, researchers and private stakeholders. The call for papers in seven over-riding themes is open. \nDescription of Event\nBlockchain\, Open Education & Digital Citizenship\n28-29 May 2019 (with pre-conference workshops on 27th May 2019)\nAt Lilliad Learning Center\, University of Lille (France) \nThe University of Lille\, for the Directorate of Digitalisation for Education (French Ministry of National Education & Youth) and the Commonwealth Centre for Connected Learning (Malta)\, organise the second edition of the international conference: \nThis conference aims to provide participants with an independent\, informed overview of the application of blockchain technologies\, globally and in particular in education contexts. \nThe conference will engage with ongoing concerns relating to blockchain technology such as sustainability\, energy costs\, open standards\, and the various merits of public vs private or consortium blockchains. \nThis conference aims to facilitate a better understanding of how educational innovation may improve lifelong learning pathways that integrate personal interest\, peer relationships\, and achievement in academic\, civic\, or career-relevant areas. \nWith regard to open education\, we focus in particular on open\, transparent educational resources. The format for this live-streamed event included panel presentations and discussions from notable experts in the information professions\, business\, government\, and urban planning. They focused on suggested blockchain applications that might be employed by libraries and archives. The day’s proceedings were live-streamed and participants had the opportunity to submit questions and comments. You may view the recorded sessions here. The Blockchain National Forum will be live-streamed and recorded. DESCRIPTION:The June Library 2.018 conference\, Blockchain Applied: Impact on the Information Profession\, included sessions that focused on blockchain technology and the ways it can be used by libraries and information centers as a community anchor.  \n\nHere is the link to all of the recorded sessions on YouTube\n\nBlockchain technology has the potential to enhance the role played by libraries within their communities\, however\, there are many questions yet to be answered about how specifically blockchain technology might be used and how much value it would add to library services and the communities they serve.
