Export course content to your own WordPress site

How do I export course content to my own personal WordPress site?

Export

If you want to take all of your posts and work with you at the end of the semester (or your time at SJSU), don’t fear! There is an option to export your information, so you can import it back into another WordPress site that you own or create for this express purpose.

Be aware that your theme and some other options will not be exported, so you’ll need to choose a different one when importing below.export

  1. Make sure you are logged in and on your site’s Dashboard.
  2. Click the Tools button on the left.
  3. Click the Export option.
  4. Choose to export “All content” and then click Download Export File. This will save your site information in an XML file that you can later use to import into a personal WordPress site. Be sure to save it to a location where you can easily find it!

Import

Now it’s time to import it back into your own site, one that you have control of. This can be a free WordPress blog at www.wordpress.com or one that you host on your own server from www.wordpress.org. Other blogging sites may allow you to import a WordPress file, so be sure to check the FAQ and other support documents for any other blog company that you’re interested in.

If you are importing into a WordPress site, follow the instructions below. (Any other site you choose will require you to find their help document for importing into their specific platform.)import

        1. Make sure you are logged in and on your WordPress Dashboard.
        2. Click the Tools button on the left.
        3. Click the Import
        4. Choose WordPress as the type of system to import.
        5. Click the Choose File button and find the location on your computer where you saved the XML export file.
        6. Click Upload file and import.

Again, your theme will not be carried over, so be aware that you will need to either find your old theme (which may not be available on the free version) or choose a different one that you like.
