This article discusses using blockchain to decentralize social networking. Current social networks gather user information and can sell the information or use it to sell direct advertising. Social networks built using blockchains currently include Obisidian messenger which supports messaging, data sharing and cryptocurrency. Another is Steemit which gathers stories or news from users and allows the community of users to vote on their value, those users who have posts with high value would get paid for them. OnG.social also pays users in cryptocurrency for posts that the community votes as valuable. These networks also distributed across users servers and pays those users in cryptocurrency. The article also states that these networks would work well for crowdfunding sources also.
